Greatest Compliment I Ever Received

No, it wasn’t about my superbly charming, intelligent, and romantic personality. I get that all the time.

Last night I received the greatest compliment ever. I am still so humbled that my heart wants to silently burst. At the dinner table, my mom randomly told me, “Ever since you started practicing yoga and meditation, you’ve become a lot calmer.” A little caught off guard, I replied, “Wait are you asking or telling me?” “I’m telling you. You’ve become a lot less reactive and easily upset.” I just about died.

You see, my very favorite part of a yoga practice is when we set our intention at the beginning of class. Why did we come today to our mat? Is it to relieve stress and anger? Is it to get a nice stretch? There is no right or wrong; it’s whatever you want to get out of the next hour. Mine has always been the same. Simply put, I step onto my mat to find patience. Having patience helps me become mindful, thereby allowing me to easily seek compassion and gratitude in all areas of life.

Patience has always been a problem for me. I’m easily irritable and fussy (#VirgoProblems) and it’s hard to get me out of that funk. Sometimes I react harshly, or perhaps passive aggressively, and every single time I regret my actions afterwards. I solely acted on my irritation, not based off logic. I let my emotions control me, when really I should be the one in control of my emotions.

I will continually be annoyed by things people say and do. Just as I will say or do things that annoy others. It’s a fact of life. But as soon as I’m mindful about my irritated feeling, I immediately breathe. No, really. Like intentionally take a deep inhale then a deep exhale. So deep that the breath is audible. I then ask myself, “How can I respond in a logical, respectful manner so I can better understand where they are coming from? I know they didn’t mean to intentionally irritate me so what made them say or do that?” This results in a cordial  interaction based off reasoning and wisdom, not off temporary fiery emotions.

It’s amazing how much weight can be lifted off your mind and heart when you possess patience. Now you have more room for love, compassion, kindness, gratitude. Yoga taught me that.

Be Still. Be Mindful. Be Easy. Woosah.

love, julie

Incognito/Lingual | 2 Month Update

April 10 marked 2 months since I got my Incognito/lingual braces put on. Overall I’ve been ecstatic about my progress so far! Although pretty subtle, they are still considered big changes for me! Feeling so grateful that I have these babies on and progressing every day. Check out my video where I discuss about food, pain, and speech here!

2017 March Favorites! Sunday Riley, Big Magic, Dr. Dennis Gross

Hi beautiful people! March went by freakishly fast. I was able to enjoy two skincare products (obsessed with all things skincare), a great book, and discovered an amazing artist! Check out my YouTube video here where I explain in detail. Or if you prefer to read, check out the products below! ❤

  1. Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment
I got samples of these from Sephora last month. They are seriously one of the best things I ever put on my face. Within 3 minutes, my skin plumped up and gave me a gorgeous glow! No wonder why it’s $158 for a small bottle. I even got a compliment after a sweaty hot yoga sesh about my skin which, trust me, never happens. Legit made my day! And it was all thanks to this product.
  2. Dr. Dennis Gross Glow Pads
I first heard these from one of my favorite blogs Mix and Match Mama! I’m not sure if/what Shay, a 30-some year old mother of 4 from Dallas, and I have much in common but I’ve been reading her blogs for YEARS 🙂 She’s always raves about these glow pads so I tried them out myself. I’ve used Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength many times before but never this tanning version. I have to say, this really does give you the most natural “sun-kissed” glow in the fastest, most effortless way possible. It’s a toilette that you rub all over your face. Check out the video where I go into more details!
  3. Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear
This book has given me life. For someone who quit their corporate job 2+ months ago to pursue a life with purpose and creativity, Big Magic came at the perfect time. Elizabeth Gilbert encourages us to embrace our curiosity in life. I now have such a different approach to my form of my creativity (blogging/YouTube) after reading this book. And it’s to approach it with zero expectations. Do this because you have a story to share. Not because you need to make money from this. And not because you want to teach anybody anything. Do it for yourself.
I recently discovered this duo from Seattle, Washington and have been OBSESSED with them. Their music has a dreamy, euphoric vibe that makes you feel good. I even set my alarm tone in the morning to their music and it seriously makes getting up much easier. I don’t even turn it off sometimes. Give them a try! Some recommended songs: Say My Name (ft. Zyra), All We Need (ft. Shy Girls), Sun Models.

Let me know your thoughts on any of these items!

What I Eat in a Day | Healthy Weekday Meal Ideas

I’m one of those weird people who actually enjoy seeing what you had for lunch. It’s just interesting to see people’s daily diet and also gives me meal ideas. I filmed and edited a short video about what I typically eat here! After I was done editing it, I realized my weekday and weekend meals are totally different ha! I definitely don’t always eat this clean.. at all. That’s why I like to be good M-T and save my calories for the weekend 🙂

How To: Delicious Turmeric Milk/Golden Milk | Benefits of Turmeric!

golden milk thumb 2.jpg

Golden Milk is wonderful to have on a chilly day when you need to warm up or right before bed time to help wind down. Turmeric is widely known to reduce joint pain, improve digestive health, boost the immune system and a million other things. Even my face wash has turmeric in it to help with acne and evening out my complexion! And every time I feel extra bloated from a meal, taking a capsule or two of turmeric always helps with my digestion.

I made a video on how to make it here! It’s a quick 2 minute tutorial 😀

1 cup of milk
1 tsp of turmeric powder
1 tbsp of coconut oil
1/2 tsp of honey
1/2 tsp of cinnamon
1/4 tsp of grounded ginger

Important to note – it’s popular to add a pinch of black pepper to this recipe to help with the absorption of turmeric while adding a nice chai-like taste. Play around with the ingredients/measurements and find what you like best!

Have any of you tried it? How do you like it?

Learn to Love Yourself. 4 self-love tips!

For the ones who ever doubted their worth, this post is for you. Today I’m sharing 4 tips to accept and love yourself more! We often spend so much of our time berating ourselves. We wonder how we could have done things differently in the past so we could be more successful today.. or comparing ourselves to other people, especially ones who are our age, and wondering why we haven’t achieved what they have yet.

Always remember that you are enough! Smart enough, talented enough, fit enough. You are a powerful being with a lot to offer.

I made a YouTube video about this here. I would love if you checked it out where I go more in-depth on the 4 tips detailed below:

1. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

  • No one is you and that is your power
  • You are unique and equally as important and valued as anyone else
  • Being anyone other than yourself is a loss for the world

2. Speak Kindly to Yourself

  • See yourself as your mother, best friend, or an innocent child. How would you speak to them if they were having a bad day?
  • Try referring to yourself as a term of endearment like “babe” or “dear”. Yes, it may sound creepy talking to yourself like that.. but only if you say it aloud 😉

3. Post-it Notes of Affirmations

  • Think about an inspiring quote, your favorite trait, or any words that may resonate with you.
  • Write them on a post-it note and stick it where you can see it as a daily reminder

4. Let it go

  • Ask yourself, “How is this thought helping me towards my goal? How does this thought serve me in a positive way?”
  • Let go of these self-doubting fears. Make room for self-love instead.

I go a bit more in depth in my video that still manages to be less than 5 minutes long. Love if you’d check it out ❤

Hope everyone’s having a fantastic Thursday 🙂

Start Living Freely! How to Deal with Insecurity

We all know what being insecure feels like. It prevents us from being the genuine, fun, loving people we really are because we’re all in our heads. Today we’re talking about 4 ways to not care about what others think of us so we can live more freely!

  1. Love Yourself

Get to know yourself, both your strengths and your weaknesses. Once you’re able to fully accept yourself, then you can have unwavering belief that, despite your flaws, you are currently living life the best way you know how to right now. We can always be richer, smarter, prettier, etc. but things can also be a lot worse. Trust yourself that you’re currently living life to the best of your ability. No one can take that from you. And anyone who wants to judge your life decisions can skedaddle ✌🏼

2. Don’t Take Things Personally

When we feel like we’re being insulted, we immediately jump into defense mode. We have such a strong desire to prove someone else wrong until we can “win.” But know that whatever someone says to you or about you is a direct reflection of them. If they say something hurtful, it goes to show the possible discontentment, jealousy, or unhappiness that they’re currently experiencing. Whatever someone says about you actually has nothing to do with you at all.

Check out my video where I go more in-depth with this one 🙂

3. Life is Temporary

Sometimes we forget that life is temporary, therefore precious. Spend your time wisely pursuing things that make your life more vivid and passionate instead of caring what others think. Because again, what others think of you is a reflection of them. Not you. Take risks and be bold for things that make you feel alive. And if you’re scared, then ask yourself, “what is the worst that can happen?” The answer is probably tiny compared to the possible reward of that action 🙂

4. Insecurity is Invisible

Insecurity is simply a feeling we create and then build up in our heads. Remember that no one can see it. No one knows you have it. This is where “fake it until you become it” can be applied. Next time you’re walking into a party where you don’t know anybody and are super nervous, just walk in there pretending you know exactly who you’re looking for. And chances are – people are just as nervous as you if not more.

I made a video on these 4 tips and went a little more in depth. I’d so appreciate it if you checked it out here! ❤
